The 15-Minute Website Conversion Audit: What to Fix First

A beautiful website can still be a poor salesperson. Visitors may like the design and leave without understanding what you do, whether you are credible, or what they should do next.
This audit is deliberately simple. Open your homepage on a phone, start a timer, and examine the path as a first-time visitor would. Do not explain the site to yourself. The page has to do that work.
Minute 1 to 3: the first screen
Without scrolling, can a visitor answer three questions: what do you provide, who is it for, and what should they do next? Replace clever slogans with a specific promise. Make the primary action obvious and write it as an outcome, such as “Book a strategy call” or “Get a project quote”.
Minute 4 to 6: trust
Look for proof near the decision points. Real client names, recognizable work, a clear process, useful testimonials, and specific results reduce risk. Generic claims like “high quality” and “best service” do not. If the visitor has to search for evidence, move it closer.
Minute 7 to 9: friction
- Does the page load quickly on mobile data?
- Is the text comfortable to read without zooming?
- Are buttons large, clear, and consistent?
- Does a form ask only for information needed at this stage?
- Can a visitor book or contact you without hunting through the menu?
Minute 10 to 12: objections
Write down the three questions a serious buyer asks before contacting you. Usually they involve fit, price, timing, risk, or what happens next. The page should answer enough to make the next step feel safe, without forcing the visitor to read every detail.
Minute 13 to 15: the conversion path
Click the main call to action and complete the journey. Check the confirmation message, email, booking reminder, and what your team receives. A conversion is not complete when a button is clicked; it is complete when the visitor knows what happens next and your team can respond with context.
Fix in this order
- Broken forms, links, and mobile layouts.
- Unclear offer and weak primary action.
- Missing trust and unanswered objections.
- Slow pages and unnecessary form fields.
- Visual polish.
